Transfer Student Requirements

USU will allow students to enter the program who have a Private Pilot Certificate. The maximum credit allowed to be granted will be the Private Pilot Ground School and Certificate. This aligns with the Restricted ATP guidelines and is for the safety of the program and the benefit of the students.

Any student that is transferring into the USU flight program must declare their major as Aviation Technology-Professional Pilot. They will be required to learn the necessary items such as checklists, aircraft specifics, etc.

Transfer students who currently hold their Private Pilot rating must enroll in AV 2451 Challenge Cross-Country Flight course and AV 2401 Cross-Country Ground School course. The flight course with specific local and cross-country flights is designed to introduce the student to the Diamond DA-40 aircraft and to verify that the student can fly to the skill level of a Private Pilot to the ACS level. Additional flights may be necessary to verify that the student can perform safely. If a student is found deficient in the airframe, maneuvers, decision making process, or safety, they will not progress forward until such skills are demonstrated. The Cross-Country Ground School course will use ground lessons and quizzes to prove the required skills and knowledge of the pilot equal to that which is necessary to continue with the next stage of flight

Flying Prerequisite

Before any students start flying, they must have these prerequisites completed.

• Current FAA Medical and Private Pilot License submitted to advisor prior to registration
• Flight course fee paid to the University
• TSA required Identification, FAA Medical, and Private Pilot License scanned in by airport personnel during the first week of the semester
