Biography
Renee Galliher is a professor of Psychology at Utah State University. Her research is focused on identity development processes, emphasizing intersections of domains of identity within relational and cultural contexts. Her work examines patterns of risk and resilience related to important relationships, as well as cultural and environmental influences and the impact of prejudice and discrimination. Identity functions as a framework for guiding attitudes and behaviors and is critical for understanding human-environment relations. Idiosyncratic identities, such as environmentalist, conservationist, or outdoor athlete, intersect with other forms of identity (e.g., ethnoracial, occupational). Thus, identity is both shaped by individuals’ experiences in the natural world and shapes individuals’ engagement with the natural world.
