Biography

Eric A. Kirk Ph.D. is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences department at Utah State University. Eric is motivated by a desire to improve how people learn to use science to make sense of the world as well, improve their lives, and better the world more broadly. His work focuses on how people use science to reason about complex civic dilemmas (e.g., How should my community manage predator populations?), and how their ideas about knowledge and knowing shape that reasoning. He investigates and designs issues-based resources that target learners’ epistemic cognition, systems thinking, perspective-taking, and science literacy. Before receiving his doctorate in the Learning Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Eric received his B.A. in Biology, his M.A.T. in Science Education from the University of Georgia and taught high school Environmental Science and Biology.
