USU Student Chapters

We are proud to have two active student chapters for our students. Both chapters provide a welcoming group to integrate students into the department and prepare for the profession. The chapter leaders plan numerous activities throughout the year.

USU Student Chapter of ASLA

The service projects done by the student chapter of ASLA include constructing new gardens at the CAPSA shelter, planting street trees, constructing a new playground, planting a garden at a Habitat for Humanity home, and the Adopt-a-Trail maintenance program for the Spring Hollow Trail in Logan Canyon. The chapter has also established the Community Design Team program (CDT) that puts together a team each year to work on design projects for the community. The donations acquired from the CTD design proposals fund various ASLA activities throughout the year. The chapter leaders plan numerous activities throughout the year such as coffee break, genius hour, barbeques, service projects, and other seasonal activities. In 2010, the Student ASLA Chapter combined efforts with the state ASLA chapter to start a mentor program which was recognized nationally in the Landscape Architecture Magazine (LAM).

USU Student Chapter of APA

The USU Student Chapter of the American Planning Association is a space for students to learn more about planning, advocate for planning, and network with professionals from planning and design backgrounds. Since the Chapter’s inception in 2023, its mission has continued to lie in expanding professional development opportunities, engaging with the community through volunteering and service, all while creating an environment to have fun. Events have included pollinator plantings, lunch and learns, Speaker Series planning lectures, and social hours.
