<bio>Preston Cox is a native of Utah born and raised in Layton, where he now owns and operates Perennial Favorites Nursery. He started the nursery in 1993 with his wife Melissa and their three children. What started as a small backyard business has grown into a regional wholesale grower serving five western states, growing over two million pots of perennials, native, annuals and edible plants per year. Perennial Favorites Nursery employees 52 full time and 44 part time seasonal employees.

Preston began his career and interest in growing plants at the young age of twelve working for his uncle Cal Flint at his greenhouses in Kaysville, Utah and later in life for fifteen years at his uncle Paul Flint at Mountain States Plants in Layton, Utah. Preston has worked in the horticulture industry for close to fifty years. Preston is still involved in the day-to-day nursery business but is in the process of turning more of the responsibilities over to his sons, Cort and Ken.

Preston served on the board of The Utah Nursery and Landscape Association from 1995 through 2000, as the president in 1999. He also served his community of Layton City as a member of the Planning Commission for nine years, chairman for three of those years, and on the Invision Layton committee for three years.

I am looking forward to serving on the Board of Plants, Soils and Climate at Utah State University and working with the faculty, students, and other board members to improve the learning experience for those who want to pursue their educations in a related field. I hope I can make a difference through sharing what I have experienced and learned over the years.</bio>
