Biography

Miss Surbhi is a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) and Master’s student working under the guidance of Dr. Jennifer McAdam, Professor, at the Department of Plants, Soils, and Climate, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Utah State University, Logan, Utah. The reduced content of Protein in grasses in later summer does not meet the nutrition of mother beef cows for fetal development. Further, many of the legumes and forbs that can supply protein also produce defense-related secondary metabolites than can benefit both the ruminants and the environment. Thus, Miss Surbhi’s research focusses on establishing the developmental parameters of seed of dormant plant species, and identification of plant secondary metabolites of important forage species as part of a novel method for deploying protein-containing perennial legumes and forbs on rangeland and thereby contributing to the sustainable beef production. The, the work carried out during her tenure will substantiate and help speed the progression of ongoing research projects in the world focussing on sustainable beef production in future.

She is also leveraging her experience and knowledge related to intermediary Carbon and Nitrogen metabolism and plant biochemistry and practicing several biochemical/molecular wet-lab techniques and methods to gain in-depth understanding of several ways of estimating major metabolites in forage species. She believes that deployment of broader ways of experimental validation procedure will add pertinent value to her research work. In addition, Miss Surbhi went to India’s premier agricultural institution, CCS-Haryana Agricultural University for her 6-year honors BS degree with special emphasis on Agronomy, Genetics, and Soil Science and graduated with distinction in the year 2022.
