Summer Field Technician - 2 Positions Available
Description
We are looking for two hardworking and enthusiastic field techs to join our 2026 summer research team. As an organization, we study how to balance livestock grazing with other valued ecosystem services on public land, including healthy riparian areas, soil carbon sequestration, and high-quality sage-grouse habitat.
Major Duties
Field Technicians will work in collaboration with the Project Manager. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Vegetation sampling, identification, and collection
- Water quality monitoring
- Soil sampling and processing
Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at USU’s Quinney College of Agriculture and Natural Resources
- Detail-oriented and a team-player
- Comfortable working 10 hours/day outdoors in cold and heat
- Able to carry up to 10lbs of gear
- Experience collecting rangeland vegetations and soil data is desired, but not required
Salary: $20/hour
Dates: May 13th - August 25th, four 10-hour days/week
Credits/Honors: Successful applicants are required to enroll for 1 credit each in NR 4151 (in the Spring 2026 2nd 7-week session) and NR 4152 (in the Fall 1st 7-week session). Successful applicants may also enroll for up to 3 summer credit hours during the internship; Honors Program participants may enroll for points. Individuals would work with a USU advisor to develop and complete an academic assignment during the internship.
Location: Time will be split between Randolph and Logan. Housing will be provided in Randolph, but not Logan. Technicians must provide their own food. Transportation between Logan and Randolph will be provided.
