Educational Background

With experience in a variety of applications including R&D, product development, quality assurance and control, management and leadership, Josie has a strong foundation in the science of food. She found a particular passion for confections and chocolate through her undergraduate work with the novel USU Aggie Chocolate Factory and an internship with the Delitzscher Chocolate Factory in Germany. After graduation, she had over two years of industry experience in central Utah and was an active volunteer in her community providing meals to food insecure children and teens. Josie is now furthering her education to better contribute to the food science world as a PhD candidate. Her current research focuses on understanding rare sugars and their potential application in chocolate and confections. With her diversified experience, she plans to make a future in the world of food and confections and to continue to volunteer with reducing food insecurity on both a local and global scale.
