Natural Resources Seminar Series: McKenzie Skiles, UofU, Director of Snow HydRO Lab
Conference/Seminar
Come listen to University of Utah's Mckenzie Skiles as she discusses her research on advances in observation and modeling of snow water resources in the headwaters of the Great Salt Lake. McKenzie Skiles is the Director of the Snow Hydrology Resarch-to-Operations Laboratory (Snow HydRO Lab). Her research methods combine numerical modeling with multi-scale observations to understand how much water is held as snow in the mountains and how snow is changing over time. Her expertise spans in situ snow observation and monitoring, snow energy balance modeling, and optical remote sensing of snow and ice. One of her main research trajectories is investigating the impacts of mineral dust and other light absorbing particles on snow in the Western US, where changing snowmelt patterns have important implications for water security.

OPDD 10 Year Anniversary Lecture: Hap Klopp
Lecture/Readings
Join us in celebrating a decade of innovation, creativity, and impact in the Outdoor Product Design & Development (OPDD) program with a special keynote lecture by Hap Klopp, the visionary former President and CEO of The North Face. For nearly two decades, Klopp led The North Face from a small mountaineering company to one of the world’s most recognized outdoor brands, shaping the modern outdoor industry and setting new standards in design, performance, and sustainability. His leadership and entrepreneurial spirit have inspired countless professionals, students, and adventurers to push boundaries and reimagine what’s possible. To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the OPDD program, Klopp will share stories from his time building The North Face, lessons on leadership and innovation, and insights into the future of the outdoor industry. This event is a rare opportunity to hear directly from a pioneer whose work has defined the products, culture, and values of the outdoor community. Come celebrate this milestone with us as we honor the past, look to the future, and continue to build a legacy of design education that equips the next generation of outdoor innovators.
