Biography
Originally from Colorado, Dr. Jon Meyer earned advanced degrees in both Atmospheric Science and Climate Science before joining the Utah Climate Center and the USU Climate Science program in 2017. As Utah’s Assistant State Climatologist, Jon’s role spans a diverse array of weather and climate services at both operational and research levels. His background is equally diverse but primarily has converged around applications of real-time numerical modeling to address Utah’s unique weather and climate service needs. Jon serves many roles in the state and federal drought monitoring communities to help inform resource decision making. Jon also leads the Utah Climate Center’s outreach and education efforts, acts as the state coordinator for CoCoRaHS, a volunteer precipitation observer network, and serves as the center’s principal media engagement scientist. Alongside advising Climate Science graduate students, Jon instructs General Meteorology (PSC 2710) & Synoptic Meteorology (PSC-5875) courses.
