The David Rider Memorial Scholarship

The David Rider Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of David by his mother, Virginia R. Scott. This award is given to undergraduate geology students with at least junior-level standing and a 3.2 overall GPA. The award is based upon financial need and academic merit.

David Rider

David Rider was born near Hagerman, Idaho and lived in northern Nevada before attending Utah State University, where he majored in Geology, receiving his BS degree in 1954. After graduation, David served two years as a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army, mainly in Germany. David also received a BS degree in Civil Engineering from USU in 1962. David had a great talent for music and played guitar and trombone and sang. He had a sense of dry (not silly) humor that made people laugh and enjoy being with him. He was killed in a helicopter crash in 1976.
