Donald W. Fiesinger Petrology Lab

Many of you studied and worked with former dean and department head Don Fiesinger and can attest to his significant contributions to the department and the College of Science. During our USU years, Don saw potential in each of us, sparked our interest in science and inspired us to reach for excellence.

To honor and continue his legacy, we propose the Donald W. Fiesinger Petrology Laboratory. We envision a lab space within the current Geology Building to foster the kind of atmosphere Don created for us during our formative academic years. The lab would provide a dedicated petrology area accessible to students well beyond classroom hours. It would serve as a gathering place for mentorship and collaboration between students and faculty, as well as a workroom for students to collectively pursue projects and study.

Our goal is to raise a minimum of $75,000 to create the fully functioning lab. Currently, we have a generous lead gift of $50,000 that will go toward renovations and lab equipment such as petrographic microscopes. We need an additional $25,000 to initiate and complete this renovation. Department Head Dave Liddell has agreed to a 1-to-1 donation match towards this project.
