Summer Park Technician Position ( 2 Positions)

Timpanogos Cave National Monument

Description:

The goal of the summer internship is to give undergraduate students an opportunity to gain hands on experience working in multiple divisions for the National Park Service (NPS).  This experience benefits the students by exposing them to the different types of job opportunities within the NPS.  In turn, the NPS will benefit by developing and mentoring future National Park stewards who are passionate about the NPS mission and goals.

Major Duties:

  • Education and Cave tour Interpretation
  • Wildlife inventories
  • Hydrology sampling
  • Cave Inventory project
  • Trail maintenance
  • Preventative Search and Rescue messaging
  • Park-wide natural resource maintenance
  • Exotic weed removal
  • Tracking visitor use data
  • Assist with park programs and events

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at USU’s Quinney College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (QANR).
  • Must have a valid US driver's license and transportation.
  • Able to answer repetitive questions while providing customer service.
  • Level of Physical Demand: The work requires some physical exertion such as hiking a steep trail with a heavy backpack, walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. The work may require crawling in caves- including dark and tight spaces while wearing a helmet and safety equipment.

Benefits/Description:

  • Approximate Start/End Date: May 1/August 15
  • Pay: $18 an hour, 40 hours a week for 15 weeks (excluding days off on July 4 & 5).
  • Credits/Honors: Successful applicants are required to enroll for 1 credit each in NR 4151 (in the Spring 2026 2nd 7-week session) and NR 4152 (in the Fall 1st 7-week session). Successful applicants may also enroll for up to 3 summer credit hours during the internship; Honors Program participants may enroll for points. Individuals would work with a USU advisor to develop and complete an academic assignment during the internship.
