Logan Canyon: Evans-Jänecke Fund

The award provides support for Graduate students actively pursuing a degree, with a minimum GPA of 3.5. A letter of recommendation from a non-relative is required. Preference will be given to students with an unfunded or underfunded research program.

James Evans & Susanne Jänecke

James Evans joined the USU faculty in 1986 after completing his PhD at Texas A&M University in structural geology. His 36 years at USU as faculty is marked by a productive research and teaching career. He developed impactful courses that reach across the university.

Susanne Jänecke studied extensional processes in East Central Idaho for her dissertation at the University of Utah, and she joined the Geology Department at USU in 1991. She taught numerous students in many classes. During her 31 years on the faculty, she mentored numerous undergraduate and graduate students, who have become successful in industry and at state geologic surveys.

In addition to their university-based careers, Jim and Susanne provide lectures and field trips for community groups and have supported suicide prevention programs for adolescents and at-risk youth. They started three scholarships in memory of former students and a scientific collaborator and friend, and they keep up a tradition started by J.S. Williams and provide fresh food for many students from their garden.
