Logan Canyon: Galloway-Cooley Scholarship

The award provides support for Graduate students actively pursuing a degree, with a minimum GPA of 3.5. A letter of recommendation from a non-relative is required.

Cheryl Galloway & Lavell Cooley

Cheryl Galloway was the first female graduate student to earn a master's degree in the Geology Department at USU in 1970. She studied the complex mountain front of the Bear River Range east of USU's main campus, and she produced a detailed geologic map and cross sections.

Lavell Cooley was the first person to receive an MSc degree in geologic studies at USU in 1928. His work was also in the Bear River Range and the topic was quite broad. He went on to work in the aerospace industry, served in World War II, and was an accomplished photographer.
