Sedimentary Geology & Paleontology

Paleobiology, Paleoclimatology, Sedimentology/Stratigraphy, Earth History

Research

The Sed/Paleo group at USU investigates various complementary aspects of sediments and Earth History. We study the sedimentary record using the techniques of:

  • field geology
  • scientific ocean drilling
  • geochemistry
  • paleoclimate reconstruction
  • paleontology
  • sedimentology
  • sequence stratigraphy
  • numerical modeling

We use sedimentary records to bolster our understanding of the evolution of life, climate, tectonics, biogeochemistry, sedimentary basins, and Earth’s surface environment over geologic time.
