Biography

Dr. Ryan Larsen is an Associate Professor and Extension Specialist in the Department of Applied Economics at Utah State University. With a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University and an M.S. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Idaho, he brings an extensive background in agribusiness, finance, and risk management to both his academic and outreach efforts. Dr. Larsen’s professional journey has encompassed roles in commercial lending, board service for farm credit institutions, and leadership positions on committees shaping agricultural credit and supply chain standards. His research and extension work span a variety of applied topics—from developing crop insurance decision tools to delivering forward-looking agricultural outlook programs—and he consistently contributes to producer-focused resources, including an interdisciplinary digital newsletter covering beef, dairy, poultry, and applied agricultural economics.

In addition to his active research and outreach, Dr. Larsen leads several grant-funded projects aimed at improving financial resilience and operational efficiency in agricultural enterprises. He has authored and co-authored multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals, highlighting practical solutions to challenges such as rangeland management, beef production, and farm credit analysis. In the classroom, Dr. Larsen teaches quantitative analysis, agricultural credit, and risk management courses, equipping future industry leaders with the analytical tools and critical-thinking skills necessary for success in today’s rapidly evolving agricultural economy. Through his multidisciplinary collaborations, Dr. Larsen remains dedicated to bridging academic research and real-world applications for stakeholders across the western United States and beyond.
