Beaver Trapping Resources

Trapping & Relocating Beaver
We understand that beavers are not always welcome when they cause severe damage to trees, irrigation systems, and roadways. Sometimes, the best option is to remove the beaver. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) issues nuisance permits which allow them to be lethally removed.

However, if you are interested in having a nuisance beaver relocated, you can contact us. We currently offer live trapping services free-of-charge but encourage donations to help offset the cost.

Why Lethal trapping is not Recommended
First, beavers are essential ecosystem engineers that provide numerous ecological benefits, such as water regulation, habitat creation, and biodiversity promotion. Removing beavers through lethal trapping disrupts these natural processes and can have negative consequences for the surrounding environment. Secondly, beavers often form stable family units, and removing individual beavers can lead to social disarray within their colonies. This disruption can result in increased aggression, territorial conflicts, and decreased reproductive success. Lastly, alternative non-lethal methods, such as flow devices or beaver management techniques, offer effective solutions for mitigating any conflicts between beavers and human infrastructure. These non-lethal approaches provide sustainable coexistence while preserving the invaluable contributions that beavers make to ecosystems.

Beaver in a cage
Live trapping and relocating beaver to restoration sites saves nuisance beaver from being lethally trapped.

Beaver Scent Pile
Scent piles, a way that beaver mark territory, are also a way to tell if beaver are present in an area.
