Help Restore Streams in the West and Find Your Community
We depend on the help of volunteers to achieve our stream restoration and wildlife conservation initiative.
Volunteer Tasks
We have a strong volunteer program at BERC as we rely on our volunteers to help with a variety of tasks such as:
- Care of beavers
- Collecting vegetation
- Facility upkeep
- Installing Living with Beaver solutions
- Outreach
- Beaver check-ins
- Beaver releases
Care of beavers at our facility, including cleaning the pens and feeding
Collecting vegetation to feed the beavers; food includes branches of willow, aspen, and/or cottonwood
Facility Upkeep includes maintenance of our Beaver Bunkhouse, which can include grounds maintenance, painting, and equipment maintenance.
Helping install Living with Beaver solutions and restoration management tools
Working outreach events either at community festivals, school events, etc.
Assisting with beaver check-ins, in which we do a full scale health assessment on all beavers that enter our facility
Helping us prepare our sites to release beavers
Volunteer Shifts
We have volunteers during our program’s field season (usually April to October). Most volunteer opportunities for beaver care occur on the weekends with all other volunteer tasks occurring at any time throughout the week. Volunteers can sign up for as many shifts as you want depending on your volunteer tier (which BERC staff assigns you based on your experience with the program).
Who can volunteer
- People passionate about wildlife conservation and environmental conservation
- Those that want to contribute to something greater and find your purpose
- Anyone interested in finding a community
- Any age, even minors (as long as an adult is present to supervise)
- Folks that like to play outside and don’t mind getting a little dirty
